Friends, please meet 6 pound, 6-month-old, Chiquito. He’s in desperate need of your help.
He was recently diagnosed with severe valvar pulmonic stenosis, which is a heart abnormality present from birth. If left untreated, his life span declines to 3-5 years, and fatigue, fainting, and fluid build-up in his chest and abdomen are expected. Despite being placed on a highly effective heart medication, his cardiologists recommend a surgical intervention called a balloon valvuloplasty.
This surgery involves a catheter being placed into his heart and inflating a “balloon” which stretches and opens the heart valve opening. The long-term prognosis following this surgery is extremely good…and it’s also going to cost $5,463.01. If we’re calculating it correctly (in between hyperventilating), he will cost us at least $910.50 per pound.
To be perfectly honest, we’re terrified to fail him. Over the past eight weeks we have said no to so many dogs while we worked to get our bills paid off and intake in an insurmountable influx of owner relinquishments. While this was not in the budget, who can say no to this face? So here we are, groveling. Please help him.
